Bellows (Gangway) Repair Coating
Our Bellows Repair Coating can be applied in situ with minimal training at the local depot
Bellows, or gangways, are the flexible connectors between two passenger rail carriages. They are essential if the walkway between two carriages is to be kept dry and clean.
Over time and in use, these connectors split through their constant twisting and flexing, or they become damaged through vandalism.
Instead of taking the rail carriage out of service for a costly bellows replacement or using the somewhat primitive approach of electrical ties to try and hold the split together, a Blocksil permanent coating solution can be used. Our Bellows Repair Coating can be applied in situ with minimal training at the local depot.
Rail use approved and air cured over a matter of hours, our UV stable and rain repellent coating is available in a wide range of colours. The coating is a liquid polymer waterproofing system which forms a seamless, permanently elastic waterproof skin. The coating remains flexible over a wide temperature range and allows for the movement and twisting of joints when the rail carriage is in operation. How long does it last? One client fatigue tested the Bellows Repair Coating over their fabric. The fabric failed after 500,000 cycles – the coating did not!
The coating is solvent and VOC (Volatile Organic Solvent) free and is unaffected by UV with excellent resistance against acids & alkalis.
It is water repellent and will not support fungal growth.
We have also used this coating system for repairing train carriage roofs and around drivers cabs to prevent water ingress.
Another huge advantage of the Blocksil coating, in addition to massive time and money savings, is the capability to remain water repellent even if subjected to damage. This function comes from the nature of the polymer and the internal tear resistant fleece found within the coating repair.
